Entering/Selecting Codes From the Database

Insertion Point

The insertion point is the position at which a character can be entered, corrected, or deleted. A movable indicator (usually blinking) called a cursor, marks the position.

In Webvantage, the insertion point advances in a logical sequence through data entry windows when new records are added. In some cases, the cursor advances automatically, but often the user must manually advance the cursor. To move the insertion point:

Selecting Codes From the Database

Tables with related data are linked by a unique code that is contained in all related tables. Required codes can be typed in, or selected from a list box. The method used to select a code from a dropdown / list box is dependent upon the application.

Dropdown

Some data entry fields display with a dropdown next to the field. Click on the down arrow, and the dropdown (Combo Box) will display with a list of valid selections for that field. Most will contain the code and description/name related to that code.

Data cannot be typed into a dropdown; however, in most cases, if the first character is entered, the list will begin at that point.

Search or Lookup List

In an empty data field, a code can be typed in if it is known. If the code is not known, use the hyperlink or double click in the input textbox to use the Search List to display a list of the codes available for that field.

The Selection List is the same, regardless of the way it is displayed. The list displays in order by Code.

Filter

The filter provides an additional way to find records for large databases.

In the column heading, click on the Filter button to display a filter of items available to limit the column by:

NoFilter Contains DoesNotContain
StartsWith EndsWith EqualTo
NotEqualTo GreaterThan LessThan
GreaterThanOrEqualTo LessThanOrEqualTo Between
NotBetween IsEmpty NotIsEmpty
IsNull NotIsNull

For the Filter type ‘Between’, type in first character, space, then last. Example: e g will find records that start with a letter between e and g.

Logging into Webvantage

Open the web browser and type in the address to Webvantage.

Example:  http://webservername/webvantage/login.aspx

The Webvantage application log on window displays. Enter the following information: All fields are case sensitive.

Select the Use Trusted Connection check box to use the Windows NT Authentication using the Network login ID. This check box may not be seen in all cases. Needs to be set up on the SQL Server in order to use.

Click the Sign In button to login to Webvantage.

Important: A User ID should only be logged on to one computer at a time. System problems may result if a User is logged on to multiple computers with the same ID at once.

Logging into Webvantage requires a Power User license in order to access all portions of the Webvantage system. A Time Entry Only licensing will allow access into only the Web Time Entry portion of Webvantage. Please speak to your sales representative for any licensing questions.

A User ID can be used to log in to Advantage and/or Webvantage. The User ID can be logged into both application simultaneously if there are licenses available.

Example:
If a user is logged into Webvantage at computer 1 and goes to another office and logs into Computer 2 to do more work (but does not log out) when the user returns to Computer 1 and clicks on any of the buttons to access the application then the user session is automatically terminated.

Log Out

There are two ways to exit Webvantage:

Once the Webvantage application is closed, the Webvantage Login  is displayed.
